Tosyl cellulose
Cellulose tosylate is a stable compound useful for modification by nucleophilic displacement (SN) reaction with a broad variety of nucleophiles including halides, amines, azide, etc. Up to a DS of 0.8, the tosyl groups are located almost exclusively at position 6 of the anhydroglucose unit. Thus, a certain regioselectivity of the (SN) reaction may occur.
Cellulose tosylates are soluble in organic solvents including dimethyl sulfoxide and in various other solvents depending of the DS. Cellulose tosylate from easily films and membranes.
